Kate Middleton Finds Special Way to Continue Princess Diana's Legacy

Kate Middleton recently paid a heartfelt visit to a children’s hospice that was deeply cherished by the late Princess Diana.

On Jan. 30, the Princess of Wales visited Tŷ Hafan, Wales’ first children’s hospice, located in the village of Sully. During her visit, she was photographed engaging warmly with young patients and their families. She played with the children and their toys, and even joined in a craft activity, allowing one young girl to paint her hand red.

The 43-year-old looked radiant during her visit, wearing a chic black and white houndstooth print dress. She appeared upbeat and cheerful, smiling and laughing in nearly every photo captured.

According to Vanity Fair, Diana was a passionate supporter of Tŷ Hafan, meaning “Haven House” in Welsh. She played a key role in funding the project. Appointed as a patron during the charity’s fundraising efforts, the late princess tragically passed away in 1997, two years before the hospice officially opened its doors. In 2001, her former husband, King Charles III, took on the role of patron, continuing her legacy.

Kate Middleton Follows in Diana’s Footsteps, Named Patron of the Children’s Hospice

During her visit, Middleton upheld the royal family’s tradition by succeeding her father-in-law and being officially named a patron as well.

“We are deeply honored that Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales has become patron of Tŷ Hafan. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Her Royal Highness to our hospice for the first time today,” chief executive Irfon Rees explained in a statement.

Rees further added that the royal family will be an “inspiration for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, our dedicated staff and volunteers and everyone who so generously supports us.”

“No parent ever imagines that their child’s life will be short,” Rees added. “Sadly this is the reality facing thousands of families in Wales. We can’t stop this happening, but together we can make sure that no one lives their child’s short life alone.”

Tŷ Hafan offers free care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Services are provided at its hospice, as well as in homes and communities across Wales, according to its website.
