According to a report in the Jan. 26 issue of Woman’s Day, the Prince of Wales is planning to reward his cousin, Lady Louise Windsor, with a new honorific.
The report comes after the 21-year-old daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh was spotted in full military uniform last week. It was revealed she’s joined the St. Andrews University Officers Training Corps. This makes her the first female royal to serve since her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
“William’s serious about her becoming a working royal,” a source told the publication of the prince’s plans for Lady Louise. “He’s even prepared to give her a new title.”
“The devotion she’s shown over the years will only improve after military service – she’s a very impressive young lady,” the source added.
As the daughter of Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest child, Lady Louise is not high in the line of succession. Following the recent birth of Princess Beatrice’s second child, Louise currently sits at 17th in line to the throne.
However, a new title would certainly be an impressive honor — and a fair one, too. Louise’s younger brother, James, 17, is already the Earl of Wessex.
Prince William Is Starting to Have More of a Hand in Ruling, Sources Say
In 2023, William’s father, King Charles III bestowed a similar honor on Louise’s father, Prince Edward. The newly-crowned king named his younger brother the Duke of Edinburgh, the same title held by their late father, Prince Phillip, for many years.
This new report comes on the heels of rumors that William is starting to plan his ascension to the throne — following the king’s recent health struggles.
In January, palace insiders reported that the 42-year-old Prince of Wales is introducing major reforms, marking a significant change in royal leadership.
William “has never been more influential” than now, the reported sources told InTouch Weekly, as King Charles, 76, relies more and more on the future King. It seems Charles is “now bestowing more responsibility on [William] and by all accounts is acknowledging that his time to rule will be sooner, rather than later.”
